THIS IS a scream: The speaker of the California Assembly wants taxpayers in Alabama, Illinois and any other state you care to name to give their money to the people of California. It goes without saying that she is a Democrat, and her pathetic begging is the result of a state fiscally run aground by the permanently entrenched, gerrymandered one-party legislature. This kind of thinking, if you can call it that, is a cousin the legislation passed by Congress that requires taxpayers nationwide pay retirement pensions to UAW workers in Michigan. It's undeniable that these macho, beer-swilling auto workers are actually just welfare recipients. I digress. Here's what the California speaker, Karen Bass, had to say:
"We think that with the state of California about to go over a cliff, we ought to be part of the bailout as well. Can we have $5 billion or $10 billion?"
I read this and would like to think that she is being sarcastic. But then again, when was a Democrat ever anything but serious about appropriating Other People's Money?
