HAVEN'T POSTED in ages but couldn't let the Iraq election pass without comment. Nothing profound, just a big high-five the the Iraqi people for their perseverance in the face of continuing danger. They prove again what a precious and rare commodity freedom really is, and what an unfree people will endure to get it. It is no coincidence that America's strongest allies in Europe are former Eastern Bloc countries.
Now, the biggest obstacle to peace and stability in Iraq isn't the terrorists of whatever stripe, but the Murthas, Deans and Kerrys. They are the real enemies of the Iraqi people. The Marines have reduced the terrorists to a sideshow.
Haven't heard much out of Democrats, or their galley slaves in the press for a couple of days. These pauses (always accompanied by major steps forward in the democratization of Iraq) in their effort to undermine the United States and buck up our enemies are always a relief, but they never last long. It seems the new Democrat Party line is: We aren't going to tell you OUR plan for Iraq. We don't have to and you can't make us.
Well, that's just dandy with me. The last time the Democrats were called on their cut-and-run rhetoric, when push came to shove, they didn't have the gust to vote for what they truly want (immediate withdrawal). If you dispute that, then you are in support of the U.S. government's current policy. Either you finish the job or you go home with your tail between your legs. You can't have it both ways. Maybe we could outsource it to the U.N.? Naah, look what's happened in Afghanistan--our NATO allies can't even manage to do the tiny little bit they promised. The Dutch can't field an armed force unless it's protected by the U.S., and the Germans have managed to train a grand total of 200 new police officers (who promptly deserted). Thanks for nothing Old Europe.
Whining that you are stupid and that a super-clever Bush tricked you into supporting a war is amusing, but intellectually dishonest. Let's face it, the left are either dummies or dishonest. Or both.
Actually, their dirty little secret is they are not at all interested in democracy. Talk about disenfranchised voters--God, these self-selected campus, Hollywood, NYC and Frisco elites would dump this whole egalitarian nonsense in a heartbeat if they could. We are far too ignorant to run the country. We should let them do it and be grateful. Sean Penn, Mike Farrell, John Kerry, Tookie Williams (oops, he's dead) are just the men to lead the United States to greatness.
Anyway, off I go on one of my horribly unscripted tangents. The point was to congratulate the Iraqis on their brilliant election and to assure them that not all Americans are criminally irresolute invertebrates. Go Iraq!
